What causes us to sweat? First of all, it's very normal as all humans have sweat glands that release a salty liquid. Sweating is what helps us stay cool. The amount that each person sweats varies depending on how many sweat glands you have, and we have millions! In fact, you might think that men have more sweat glands simply because they seem to sweat more than women. But the opposite is true - women typically have more sweat glands, and men's are just more active.
When do you sweat? Well we sweat when we're hot, or excited, nervous and anxious. Even though sweating is very normal, sometimes we have to take caution. If excessive sweating is accompanied by such things as rapid weight loss, high fever, shortness of breath for example, you should see your doctor straight away.
Excessive sweating could be a symptom of menopause, or even hyperthyroidism. If you are prone to excessive sweating, make sure to get into the habit of drinking plenty of liquids. This is so you can replenish your body of lost fluids.
